Formation of intercultural communication in foreign language classes

Abstract

Intercultural communication is an extremely important component of today’s globalized world. It promotes understanding and acceptance of cultural differences, reducing the risk of misunderstandings and conflicts that may arise due to differences in values, traditions, and communication styles. One of the challenges that communicators from different cultures face is misunderstanding each other through the prism of stereotypes embedded in cultural values, traditions or historical features of a certain people. Stereotypes can create barriers to effective communication, leading to conflict or misunderstandings. The aim of the article is to investigate the influence of cultural stereotypes on the process of intercultural communication in foreign language classes and to suggest ways to overcome the barriers that arise as a result of these stereotypes. The subject of the study is the influence of cultural stereotypes on the process of intercultural e communication. The object of research is intercultural communication in the context of intercultural interaction, that is, communication between speakers of different languages and cultures. Intercultural communication is the process of exchanging information, ideas, and emotions between people of different cultures or ethnic groups. Cultural stereotypes have a significant impact on the process of interlanguage communication, as they shape expectations and perceptions of other cultures, often simplifying or distorting their essence. They arise due to the desire of people to generalize the behavior of representatives of certain nations or ethnic groups and are preserved in society from generation to generation. There are several effective ways to overcome stereotypes: development of intercultural competence, avoidance of stereotypes in language, feedback, learning foreign languages, use of sign language, implementation of anti-stereotype training. The role of the teacher in the development of intercultural communication is extremely important, as he can contribute to the formation of respect for other cultures, awareness of cultural differences and tolerance. Intercultural communication provides a basis for building mutually beneficial relationships, helps avoid misunderstandings, and contributes to the preservation and transmission of cultural heritage. The perspective of further research is to study the impact of digital media on intercultural communication, as social networks and the Internet actively shape modern cultural stereotypes and communication practices.
