Stylistic competence development of future translators of Chinese at the lexical-semantic and grammatical levels

Abstract

The article is devoted to the problem of developing the stylistic competence of future translators of the Chinese language at the lexical-semantic and grammatical levels. The definition of the concept of stylistic competence is presented and analyzed. The analysis was based on the educational programs of China and Ukraine for training translation specialists of Chinese language. According to these documents, students must acquire the basic stylistic knowledges, abilities and skills, which could help them to develop their translation abilities. The material of the research are the educational programs of Kyiv National Linguistic University for the bachelors training, specialty "Chinese language, literature and translation, Western European language" of 2022 and master's training educational program "Oriental philology: Chinese language and literature, translation, teaching methods", educational programs of Beijing Linguistics University and Xi'an University of Technology, specialty Chinese-English translation. The lexical-semantic level of stylistic competence development of the Chinese language future translators is characterized. The characteristics of recommended exercises for Chinese language translation specialists stylistic competence development at the lexical-semantic level are given. We created examples of exercises for elementary, intermediate and advanced levelss of Chinese language learning are given. It was determined that scientists mostly distinguish oral and written functional styles, which must be devided for five main functional styles of the Chinese language: conversational, official-business, scientific (or academic), literary-artistic, journalistic. The requirements for the selection of lexical, syntactic and grammatical units for working with Chinese different functional styles are described and analyzed in detail. The peculiarities of the stylistic competence development of Chinese language future translators at the grammatical level are described in detail. The main stylistic figures and techniques are described. They are necessary for students to study in order to train their professional skills at advanced level.
